You'll only lose them if you delete the games from your library. If you re-install dependencies or even LaunchBox on top of your current install, you'll lose nothing. LB 7.10 is next, and there's no telling that it will fix anything if this is a problem with windows or dependencies. Like I said, someone went through the trouble of re-installing all the dependencies and it worked.

Yea, the "fuss" came from importing the set in a round about way, which it does work honestly. We're trying to make that much easier, we just have a lot to go through. Like for example, @Vlansix wants to improve the database before we upload thousands of images.

Big Box joystick button menu set up no longer working
SentaiBrad replied to stevaside's topic in Noobs
What controller are you using, and is it still selected in the Controller Menu? -
A re-install of what? Re-installing LaunchBox on top of your current install, everything is just refreshed. Unless you're re-importing, you're not changing anything related to your games at all. Even then, selecting to not download all the images during the initial import reduces that time by a lot. You'd still lose favorites though, which can suck for a lot of people. Again, I'm not sure re-installing dependencies works, but given the odd behavior and it was solved for others by doing that, I would take a shot in the dark and say to try that. One user went down the full rabbit hole, re-installed everything. They did x86 (32 bit) first, then 64 bit. After going through the whole list, they said after completely uninstalling and installing fresh it worked. The thread is still around, this was just the last 24 hours.

All of those games work in MAME. Playlists aren't to replace Platforms like Monkus said, they're just there to show you a focused look at a cross section of games. Converting them to a platform obviously works, but the Playlist will still be there. Unless you're trying a different emulator, there's no real reason to make them a platform. Don't forget to scrape the platforms as Arcade, or any new metadata wont be found.

After a few years off getting back into Retro Gaming
SentaiBrad replied to wolfhound89's topic in Noobs
In the older tutorials that I did, the RA buttons were still Z and X, but it has since changed to Enter and Backspace. The SNES Beginner tutorial is all about RetroArch and I walked you through every step. -
If the platform is empty, it wont appear on the left until you add games. When you go to Manage Platforms though, it should still appear there even when empty.
-
Potentially, but downgrading first and checking if it works again will tell us if it's a Beta problem.
-
Sure, that is true Neil, but I had them go in to Tools -> Manage Platforms and it's not there. On the left side bar that is true.
-
No they do. I just created an empty platform and it shows up. If an empty platform also wouldn't show up, how could you add games to it?

It's actually not that anymore. It's Enter and Backspace. -
Of course, no problem. Let me know if that fixes the issue. I'm also going to CC @Jason Carr just in case, but if this does fix it, we should post the issue in the beta thread or in the BitBucket. Edit: I also just created a new platform in the Manage Platform area though, and even after restarting it's still there.
-
If you go in to Tools -> Manage Platforms, the platform is not there at all? And yes, you can downgrade without fear. Download the latest stable from the site again, or go in to your LaunchBox/Updates folder. They've just recently started to be labeled, but only recently during the last betas. So it would be easier to grab the latest stable from the site again. Just double click the installer, and install it on top of your current LB directory.

I don't think so. Maybe I am wrong. For the disc information, it is kept in the "Version" field though. That's where anything in the brackets gets put, read, and utilized by LaunchBox. Including multiple disc information.
-
Well, a way to specify discs after the fact isn't a bad idea, but if I recall you can already do that? Double click on that field and see if you can enter them in.
-
It only identity's them when they're labeled properly. The roms should be labeled in any type of bracket, usually ( ) or [ ], with Disk 1, Disk 2, Disc 1, Disc 2, Disc(k) 1 of 2, Disc(k) 2 of 2, etc. Then when you import, make sure you have selected to merge games. This will also merge variations on the game. Essentially, the game name needs to stay the same, it's looking inside of brackets for identifying information. So when import, inside the brackets is ignored for figuring out a games name, but not ignored to figure out information. How it's displayed for you is how multi disc games will be displayed, but since it was never imported that way it wont say what disc is what in that last image you showed. However, even after doing it through the importer with the right verbiage, you'll right click a game to see anything attached under it.

You must make sure you have the right rom pack, and they don't have to but the pack and emulator version should match. With RetroArch, all you need to do is make sure you have the right command line, which LaunchBox does for you. Import MAME games with the MAME Importer, don't let LB move them, done. Import regular games, select RetroArch, use or slightly modify the command line, done. -

MAME is no where near simple either. -

I saw RocketLauncher metioned; If you're worried about RA being complicated, then RL would be out of the question too. That said, RetroArch has evolved quite a ton, and things like controller mapping is much much easier now. It's understandable when you see people talk about RA being bad, but a version number should really accompany it. When I used RetroArch v 1.0 - 1.2, it sucked ass. Figuring out the command lines for the first time, and the RGUI, while not terrible, was laid out poorly and nothing was explained. They've since changed to an XMB styled UI, labeled things better, explained what menu items do in the UI now, and now that we've figured out a ton of the emulator quirks that aren't in documentation, it helps. Thatman is totally right, most people will not look things up them selves, and instead bitch and moan or move on. Look at our forums, I'll answer a question 1 day, and the next day someone has asked the exact same thing. It happens everywhere, and I would consider our community one of the best. I had the same issues with MESS until I was able to figure out it's quirks and document them in an easy to understand way, then it became much much easier. RetroArch, once we figured it out and documented helped a ton, but the program has seriously evolved. If someone still doesn't want to use it, then that's totally fine, that's the name of the game: Choice. But if you ask us what a lot of us consider to be the best emulator package available, we're gonna tell you, and quite a few us of consider that RetroArch. -

And it's actively developed with really quality developers behind. If you ignore the politics and just come for the emulation, it really can't be beat. No one here works with them, we just recognize when something is damn good. There are other good solutions out there, and there are hundreds that are simply down to personal use. If you don't like RA, then don't use it, use something else. That wont stop it from still kicking ass though. -
Controller Automation only works with a controller, so keyboard presses wouldn't work. If you could swap the sticks on the driver level, that might work. Otherwise, AHK is built in to LaunchBox, I don't remember if it automatically runs with Big Box, but that would be the alternative I would think to go to first.

If the controller is read as the same, custom configs would probably need to be utilized. This is probably a scenario where Custom Configs can be very useful instead of letting the auto-controller or overrides go. Though, the Overrides will probably due just fine the more I think about it. Custom Configs or overrides are on a per core or per game basis. So when you load the core, it will load automatically. You'll just need which ever controller you want plugged in at that time. An alternative is to just go for a quality controller that you can use for everything. The 8Bitdo controllers should automatically config, as well as the other 4 popular controllers. Go with the design you like the most, which includes the buttons.

Yea, wireless doesn't mean lag inherently. It depends on how many other bluetooth or wireless signals are around you, the strength of the device and receiver, where it's located, and it's drivers. Wireless signals around you are things people don't think about. When I have the wireless turned on for a lot of devices, some of my weaker devices have issues connecting. I have to go through and make sure consoles are fully off, devices wifi are off, etc.

I'm the one dealing with the merch right now, and I have been trying to contact outlets. it hasn't been going anywhere, so I am moving on to either a different avenue, or going down my list of places where we could go. PM me and we can talk.
