  1. Or, run Driver Booster from IOBit. That will update all of your drivers, even devices that didn't know they need updating. That's the best way after installing a new OS. I have my wife and my mother in law using it, and it works great. My wife is a tech person, but my mother in law is, and it helps them both immensely. My wife knows what shes doing, but has much less time to be on the PC as I do because of her work. I also use Ninite as well. Open the website, check the boxes of software I need, and then run that installer. That's one of the fastest ways to get a majority of my software up and running again. I don't choose Steam from this software though, as it installs to the default C location, and I need it else where. But a lot of the software I do suggest, can be found in there. Windows updates now takes a lot of the guess work out of it, but there's still a bit more after install. Also, don't forget to disable telemetry (the check box during install is only part of the fight), make sure to disable P2P Windows Updates (the check box during install should have taken care of it), and you can disable Defender and OneDrive integration if you'd like. I don't use either, but Defender is actually really decent, but I replace it with Malwarebytes AntiMalware, so.
  2. Hell, use two candles. Best tech ever.
  3. Yea, split and non-merged only for LaunchBox as merged doesn't import properly in to LaunchBox. I mean, it will import, but you have to import multiple times with different regions selected, and you may not get the version or region you want. Split is only a few GB larger than merged now days (last I checked), so merged makes even less sense now days. I remember when the difference was like 15GB. Split can have some odd.... issues as well. They're small issues, but some people run in to them more often than others. Derek (DOS) hasn't had any with split, but I have had quite a few, so I opt for non-merged because it's the most compatible version. It's a combination of merged and split. It has the same amount of files as split, but every file has been merged. A downside of this is that it's double in size. So with non-merged and chd, you're talking about a lot of space.
  4. The OS doesn't take up all of an SSD's input output, but yea, the total size will get large fast. I have all of my stuff on an 8TB SATA3 5400RPM drive. If I could change anything about it, I would swap 5400 to 7200RPM, because it can take me a second to load the drive up, as it needs to spin up. My Externals also have a similar problem because they're 5400RPM. It's not a big problem really, but it can bother some people. If the drive has already spun down, and you need to load up LaunchBox or Big Box, I guess it could also effect it's start up time. The problem with large drives, is the really large ones (8TB) are decently more expensive at 7200RPM, or much harder to find.
  5. I would love to get a nice 4k G-Sync, but I'd rather a new GPU and mic stand for everything else I do first. Maybe if my client work picks up.
  6. Well, to be fair, the cache exists to help performance and when it's running performance can be lower. Once it's done, it does severely help. It does cache as it goes, so you don't NEED to force cache, but only the platforms that are fully cached will run better. Past that, then we start having questions about if the user is on Beta, the type of Hardware, and the size of a users library. It's also foolish to think that the size of a library doesn't contribute to lag. It most certainly will. Also, Windows Explorer does lag, and they are not comparable in any sense of the word. So, on my 8TB SATA3 drive, my MAME folder with a full non-merged and CHD set, lags when opening. So, it can, with a massive amount of data in a single folder. In a folder with a ton of icons, it can load faster too once it's cached (but a Windows cache is admittedly very small (you can increase it)). No ones saying that people's issues aren't real, but the reason why they're real is a question because we've helped many many people with their issues by going through a few steps. It usually comes down to people don't understand how powerful their machine is, how much they've already loaded it up with and then try to run LaunchBox, or that more does take longer to load.
  7. We had a very long conversation about this on the Discord! This sparked a heated debated.
  8. Yea, it's tricky and I get that. Maybe the true answer is for it to be on Windows? Because, if a game gets re-released, you don't usually say it's still on the old console, it's on the new console, and that applies even for emulation (Mega Man Collection, rumored Mega Man X Collection, Saturday Morning Cartoons Collection). So I don't know. Sorry, I went back and forth with myself after I talked about it. I think the big differentiating factor here, is that it's a legit port / emulation bundle. I wouldn't call emulating SMB3 in Mesen a Windows game, but if Nintendo released Virtual Console games on Windows, then I'd call that version a Windows Game. So, sorry for the conflicting messages (going back and forth is what we're built on).
  9. I wish there was a puNES RetroArch core.
  10. So it depends. There is a way to force it, never force it. Some games are built for 16:9 as well. For the games where you can put in a code to do it, the Widescreen Hacks as it were, it's actually done very very well. The PCSX2 website showcases a lot of them. There's a thread over there all about it, so check it out to see how it looks. It's not doing any cropping as far as I know; It's actually just widening the screen. Obviously this wont work for all games, some would be glitched, but yea.
  11. Potentially, but not necessarily.
  12. It wont crop, it just forces the 16:9 image in to the 4:3 screen, meaning there are massive black bars on the top and bottom, and it makes the image much smaller.
  13. It's still a DOS Game, it was just sold on Steam. If it's using DOSBox, then it's still a DOS game to me.
  14. I'm not sure what to call it. Big Box Button Navigation? Also, I should specify Premium doesn't lock you out of controller support in LaunchBox. It does have quite a few features in it for LaunchBox, but Controller support isn't one of them. So, Premium doesn't JUST have Big Box behind it. I wanted to clarify just in case.
  15. P-UAE (They've stated they want to use WinUAE) is still a WIP core for RetroArch, so it may not function properly. It's not even on the list for the Wiki yet. I also took a look at the Info file, and it doesn't look like it even loads disc images yet. display_name = "Amiga (P-UAE)" authors = "GnoStiC" supported_extensions = "adf|dms|fdi|ipf|zip|uae" corename = "PUAE" manufacturer = "Commodore" categories = "Emulator" systemname = "Commodore Amiga" license = "GPLv2" permissions = "" display_version = "v2.6.1" supports_no_game = "false" So, you might want to try WinUAE, FS-UAE or WinFellow.
  16. No, Premium just locks you out of Big Box. In LaunchBox you can use a controller, but it's obviously not really made for it. I like the script because someone was requesting this because their arcade stick, or their controller. I know that some controllers, especially ones that have no thumb stick and badly IDed d-pads can benefit from this.
  17. Yea, if you ever can't login to EmuMovies, the API or the site can be down, and will be fixed or brought back up as fast as he can get it.
  18. If you search Darkwater Saturn set, Truripe saturn set, with various things on the end, you'll find something. Make sure to try and get the newest dates.
  19. If they're beta specific, you could ask them here or the beta thread. Either works. As for the Metadata.xml, I don't know if LB will replace it automatically if it's corrupted. If it does, then I guess you don't need to (or you could just update it from the database if there is an update for your metadata file). If it doesn't replace it, then you could delete it, but downloading an update will also replace it.
  20. Yea, I would be leaning towards Discs. Even if you got them from several sources, they could all be bad. The only best sources I have found are the rom sets, the ones I mentioned for Saturn. Does the info screen say if the BIOS are the correct version? Sure, it will tell you if they're present, but does it also say, or does that also mean that they're correct?
  21. Other DosBox forks might have them, -x might. Since I can't get -x to load with LaunchBox, and SVN is still fairly vanilla (though updated), I would consider Daum one of the best for use with LaunchBox. I still think -x is much better though.
  22. You also don't need the CHD's for MESS (MAME), but for me, I needed the CHD's for CD-i. None of the bin cues I had worked for some reason. So in the tutorial I had made for this, that was my suggestion too actually.
  23. That's pretty bad ass. You could also upload the ahk file to our downloads section if you want. Thank you for creating this, I know there were a few people asking for this.
  24. I believe so. I had it where I was never getting past that, and I replaced BIOS and disc images, then it worked. Look for the Darkwater, Trurip or Redump rom sets for Saturn. Grab a single game and see if that solves it, but bad rips of everything is everywhere.
