Regarding hoarding native PC games: You know, I don't think collecting as many ROMS as possible is such a bad thing. They are fairly portable so you can move ROMS and emulators around from machine to machine and as long as the paths and drive letters stay the same, you can pretty much slot everything back in place and carry on as before. Native PC games however, are an absolute pain in the ass to hoard. I have about 140 retail PC games, 60 Indie games, 40 homebrew games and 350 Steam games that I have had to re-install after rebuilding my PC with a new mainboard and CPU and re-installing Windows. It's taken me over 2 weeks (getting on to 3) to re-install them all the way I had them before.....and that is with the media and artwork already in place. Re-installing 18000 ROMS with their respective emulators after my PC rebuild was a breeze. Re-installing a relatively paltry 300 odd native PC games has deleted about 3 weeks of my life.

Silly question possibly, but what theme are you using that has the time and date? I actually want a theme with the time showing lol. There is so many themes I'm confused so forgive me.- 627 replies

Launchbox for Linux - Preliminary Discussion
JamesBond@ge replied to Lordmonkus's topic in News and Updates
Excuse my language by the way. I used that word to accentuate the meltdown that goes on in my head when I open that program. Obviously, I'd use it in conjuntion with LaunchBox / BigBox because some of the features look great, but.....we only have a limited time on this Earth lol. -
Launchbox for Linux - Preliminary Discussion
JamesBond@ge replied to Lordmonkus's topic in News and Updates
I must admit that I would love to use RocketLuncher. I have it installed. But everytime I open it up and look at it, I think "what the fuck do I do now?" and then close it lol. It's look so complicated. -
Have you checked this tutorial here? (Edit*** The platform should be called "Sega Model 3" going by this video. Were you looking for Supermodel or Model 3?)
-
How are you having a problem launching Model 3 / Supermodel in LaunchBox? I use it without a problem. It was long ago when I set it up so I can't remember if it was tricky or not but nothing stands out.
-
Damn, I thought he was going to get thrown out of that thing. I wish he did. I would have laughed myself to death lol.
-
Ahh that's not a bad idea actually. I didn't think of that. I'll have a look at that myself in a minute! Cheers Neil.

@Nickjs You're welcome. Sorry it's not more of a whizz bang automated solution, but it's one that I dream't up when I realised the LB Steam Importer is not that great. I don't know if you already know this, but the Steam videos are in .WEBM format and they do play in LB / BB without any kind of conversion. Put them in the videos folder for the Steam platform you created. They should be named exactly the same as the shortcut is named.
-
That's true about not downloading the Steam videos. I actually go onto the Steam website itself and download the video from the games store page and manually rename it myself. You can do this by right clicking the video and doing the old "Save As" thing. It is a cumbersome way of doing things, but I find it less cumbersome than the LB Steam Import method.

I've gone a bit MS-DOS obsessed lately. Ever since I worked out how to create .bat files to 'Launch Before / Launch After' Xpadder profiles to work with D-Fend and DosBox, I've disappeared down an MS-DOS rabbit hole. I never used MS-DOS back in the day as it was all about the Amiga 1200 for me. I started using PC's at Windows 98SE so it's great to go back and explore all this stuff. There is a certain charm to MS-DOS software that I can't put my finger on. I definitely feel 100% more elite when I'm adjusting CPU cycles and choosing VGA, EGA and all that jazz lol.

Yeah, can I second a "disabling inbuilt PDF reader" option? I've already been using the Sumatra PDF solution that someone posted elsewhere in the forums for ages and I'm fine with it. (Gawd, I sound really ungrateful). Sorry.

I use an Intel Core Quad 6600 @ 2.4ghz (which I overclock to 3ghz in Winter and back to 2.4ghz in the summer) / Asus P5W-DH Mainboard / 4GB RAM / GeForce GTX 750ti / Windows 7 64-bit / Dolphin 5.0 and it runs 95% of GameCube games at 60fps with 1280x720 res, DX11 and all that jazz. Mario Kart Double Dash at full speed and the FANTASTISSHHH F-Zero GX at full speed. Well, it takes about 10 or 20 seconds after booting the game to settle down to 60fps, probably filling up caches and sheiiit. That game is heavy but my 10 year old setup runs nearly all GC games perfectly. Crash Nitro Kart and Burnout 2 run at full speed. Wii games however are a bit of mixed bag. I can run New Super Mario Bros at 60fps with occasional drops down to 40-45fps. The lighter games run ok. The shovelware shit like Luxor run ok, but the complex 3D stuff gives me a bit of grief.....and though I have them in my LaunchBox setup, I don't really bother to play them. So because I'm a bit of an expert at squeezing as much as I can out of SHODDY old hardware ;-), I have a feeling that the Intel N4200 is going to get sand kicked in it's face by Wii games. Infact, I don't think you should even attempt to run Wii games at all on a Notebook. I read this from more brainier guys (than I) over at the Dolphin forums. These GC and Wii are done gonna heat that CPU really hot and you might end up blowing the whole notebook, iishiruga fork or not. I have no hard facts though. Just a gut feeling. You may wanna ask the guys at the Dolphin forums as they know their stuff. I had a read of this article on your behalf too - https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2017/01/10/voyo-mini-pc-review/

That's ok. You shouldn't need to do it hundreds of times. You should be able to get the shortcuts out of the Steam folder in your Start menu. As for having to have the games installed, as you say. I thought that was the whole issue.....not having games in your LaunchBox that are not installed?
-
A way around this conundrum, is to just manually create a platform. Mine is "Steam Games" and I import the shortcuts into LaunchBox, the same you would with Windows Games etc. The Steam Client creates those little URL shortcuts whenever you install a game. Use them instead. It's a lot easier than mashing that DEL key 500 times.

You do need Roms in this hobby. Honestly, you do.

ScummVM / MS-DOS - Mash them all into one platform or not?
JamesBond@ge replied to JamesBond@ge's topic in DOSBox
Yeah, that makes sense to me. Thanks Zombiebeaver. There was a comment you made elsewhere in the forums and it was about your Xbox 360 Controller not playing nicely with DOSbox so to set something in a config......to a controller which is totally different. I don't know if I'm making sense here. Something to do with controller polling. I made a mental note of this post because I knew I would be limbering up to MS-DOS soon....but I forgot it. I tried a search to no avail. Edit: Found it Cheers Zomb. King Of 'tricky bastard computers to emulate' lol ;-) -
I'm soon to import about 130 general MS-DOS games. A best of compilation, all sorted and ready to go, thanks to D-Fend Reloaded! I also have 400-ish ScummVM games ready to go too. I just need a second opinion. Would you import them all into MS-DOS or have ScummVM as a totally separate platform? I'm leaning towards ScummVM as separate platform because there is some Amiga and NES in there....but I don't know. I need a second opinion :-)

theme CriticalZone / CriticalZone - BlueBox
JamesBond@ge replied to CriticalCid's topic in Big Box Custom Themes
Hi CriticalCid. I love your themes and use them all the time. I have my Platforms List as a plain text list and was wondering if it would be possible to have the 'glass' effect around them, rather like what is there in the platform details and descriptions? I hope I'm not being cheeky making requests.- 627 replies
