Open - ScummVM Media Scraping - Issue #342
SentaiBrad replied to illfated's topic in Troubleshooting
Well, it's a bit different than the Arcade platforms. We were debating on dropping it, but it's... more unique than Arcade. It's ironically a lot pickier in many ways, so it's debatable. With Arcade, you can create as many custom platforms, and then just scrape as Arcade, where ScummVM you would create a custom platform to scrape as one system, then create another custom platform to scrape as a completely different system. So... I don't know. I'd like to hear what @Jason Carr @Vlansix @CriticalCid and @lordmonkus think about it. With Arcade we can make an easily identifiable case, the MAME set can be split with software, or users can find specific sets out there then just scrape as, but with ScummVM it seems much much more confusing. -
I know what you're talking about, and Additional Applications still apply. As long as you have default programs set up, you can add anything you want. So say you add the mag as the "application", set a name, right click the game and it should be there. If your default programs is set up, it will launch with the program you set it to launch with. If not, you can add the full path to the application as a default command line parameter and it should launch a custom program. If I recall, this is a situation I highlighted in the tutorial as well.

To be honest, if someone has done that much research to know some of it's quirks exist, they equally know how to disable them. There's only 1 or 2 things off the top of my head that I had to disable that were annoying, like P2P sharing Windows Updates. The upgrade is also not free anymore, so if someone buys it they should have no issues re-installing when need be. Also, to a certain extent, there is nothing to be done directly about the performance increase because some of the performance increases are directly tied to the OS upgrade it's self. There will be more that could be done, but that inherent increase we're talking about can't be replicated but it can't be ignored. -
I've only ever used it wired, but what software are you using? That might help, but I know the controller has two drivers. I've seen "Wireless" and xinput, so it might be switching between that. RA should switch automatically, but since it's still probably connected wirelessly it's conflicting. I don't know if it's possible to disable the xinput portion of it's drivers in the Controller Menu inside of Windows, but if it lets you do that, do that. Even if you load a custom config that scenario still might mess with it. I know I had to set the load order actually, the wireless labeled driver was being loaded first and was messing things up, but I don't have bluetooth, I only ever use wired.

Coverflow not smooth on powerful computer

If you do buy replacement ram, check to see if your motherboard is set up as a dual or triple channel for the RAM. If it's dual, 2 sticks of RAM will perform better actually. If it's triple, which is rare now days, then 3 sticks will perform better. They just need to be on the same set of DIMM slots. So mine is dual channel with 4 slots, and my 2 16GB Sticks are on the same pair of dimm slots. If I get a RAM Upgrade, it'd be the same exact RAM on the other 2 slots. I don't think 2 vs 1 for RAM will solve the issue, but if you are looking to replace it in the long run, double check and go from there. -

Yea, like I said, GPU and Hard Drive will only have minor improvements. I did also say there is always speed improvements to be made, in the latest Beta, and in upcoming beta's, there are A TON of performance improvements. There's a report of a user with a 50k library going from 1-2 min start up, to sub 30 seconds. So some performance may be from recent beta's, and there is more to come. But yea, I agree with Monkus, something funky might be going on in hardware or software not related to LB. The 1070 can help, it will help most with Big Box because of XAML, but the images and cache is still CPU, RAM and HDD specific. If all your images are not re-cached fully and there is some stuttering, that could be why. I do feel bad that's it's not working like how you expected, I'll be honest in saying that at first I thought it might have just been differences in expectations, it usually is, but I do think that there might be something more underlying here and I have zero clue as to what it could be now, just shy of failing hardware. The only thing left to be replaced on your machine is RAM and CPU, then you more or less have a brand new machine. If you are hell bent on trying to fix this issue, I would try replacing RAM first as it's significantly cheaper, and I have heard some odd stories of RAM screwing with a system and programs because one stick is failing. I am just grasping at straws here though. -

I replied to the original thread you replied to, so I'm just gonna copy and paste that response here: Well that's new, a PS1 game in ScummVM? If it's using regular names now though, most of them are from DOS, so you can scrape your ScummVM platform as DOS, however that doesn't fix an apparent PS1 game? If it's using regular names now though, for everything, this makes Jason and I much much more excited and makes our job easier as there wont need to be any internalization. However, we don't have media for ScummVM because it's not a platform, it's an emulator. We're getting away from platforms based on arcade boards or emulators, and this wouldn't be much different. However, ScummVM doesn't get separated out like MAME can, and you can create as many custom platforms as you want with MAME Games, and just scrape them as properly. You can do this here, if you don't mind multiple ScummVM Categories. Put all DOS ScummVM games in a platform and scrape it as DOS, put all PS1 ScummVM games in a platform and scrape it as PS1. As a combined platform, that's a trickier thing to do. Edit: Also no, here, most people don't use Hyperspin scrapers. Sure there are some people who do, and some people are converts who kept their media, but a bigger majority here doesn't use HS at all, and there are quite a few who do and just use our Database. Of course there's nothing wrong with using it if you want, but the Database is widely used here. -
Importing ScummVM for use in Launchbox via Rocketlauncher - A Tutorial

If it's a magazine that you want specifically tied to a game, either for articles or walkthrough's, you can also use the Additional Apps feature. It wont be as easy as just importing the entire set like roms, but it will be more customized and specific.

Whoops, I was backwards, so I just removed my other post. If that's the case, and you didn't change any of your settings from Stable to Beta, then something else might have changed during import and the information is still functioning properly.

Fake "Mario" games for Wii, and moderation issues.
SentaiBrad replied to FistyDollars's topic in Contributions
I do believe @Vlansix is working on something like that. It doesn't help that LaunchBox doesn't see the alternate names yet, but it will get there. Just remind the user that it's an alternate, and that the artwork and name can live on the entry that already exists. Don't be afraid to link out to the Guidelines as well. There should also be, or soon to be, in-line Guidelines as well, so Guideline rules will be available during moderation and when adding or editing games. -
Also, that is a Quad core, but it's only 1.44Ghz, Windows 10 is probably wanting more. So with W10 vying for power on top of LB, a lower speed CPU wont help regardless of it being quad core. I don't recall what speed your CPU is Derek, but like you said there may still yet be some optimizations that can be done to at least help out. Slimming down W10's services and active running programs, changing the UI to it's basic version will also help.

If it's flash Storage or an SSD you can also turn down or turn off how much ram LB is using in the settings. That might help a bit, but it will rely more heavily on the storage than the RAM.

Remove duplicate clear logo in games/platform view
SentaiBrad replied to 80sarcadeboy's topic in Noobs
Some options in LaunchBox effect Big Box settings, but not all of them. Image Priorities should be one of them. You may need to reset your cache when you make image changes like that. The cache is different for LB and BB as well, so just reset the BB cache. -
Unless something changed severely in .180, we are using slightly older info, but it's worked pretty much flawlessly until now. You used the MAME Rom Importer and called the platform Arcade, and it was all messed up?

How do you manage Sega CD and Sega 32x games?
SentaiBrad replied to Manuel Leiria's topic in Emulation
Does it? I just checked, and yep, it does. It needs to be outfitted with media and metadata (something that a lot of systems will be going through when Alex removes, combines and adds a ton of stuff) but for sure it's a valid, oddly valid, platform and we should outfit that section. It doesn't have too many games, so I'm sure it can get completed fairly fast. -
When I was doing the theme tutorial only game videos were a thing, platform videos didn't exist. I wonder how I could update that stuff without making a 1 or 2 min video... I'm open to updating or creating new tutorials.

I have no clue then. If you're not in a custom view and you're back to the regular platform or platform category view, and View -> Arrange by is not set to that anymore, I am lost. You could back up your Settings XML and try reloading a fresh XML (when it's gone LB will create a new one). This will remove most of your settings though, so it's a pretty bad workaround. I'll pass this on to Jason.

No, but if you want to launch through UI like that (add-on or otherwise), there's usually extra commands, and in this case it's a very very easy fix which is to not load through the UI.

It's because you are changing the platform name, so the Windows images folder is still there, and now it's creating a PC Images folder. Go in to the ../LaunchBox/Images/ folder, rename Windows to PC (do this for images, music, manuals etc), and overwrite any images. Delete anything that remains and restart LaunchBox. If it's still not there, refresh the cache in the tools menu and you should be good to go from there. Also, don't forget to set the scrape as setting up for the platform. You can import as what ever you want and it will scrape a platform you set it as. Tools -> Manage Platforms, open up PC and Scrape it as Windows. Anything from then on (unless it's from Steam), can be imported as PC and scraped as Windows. This works if you also want to create custom platforms for GOG and Steam specifically, scrape them as Windows.

Well there are visual editors out there for XAML already, and preferably these would be used. Adding more options like that in Big Box is a good idea, but if we add all those settings to micro-manage everything, then there's little to no need for custom themes (well, there still would be, but you get the idea). It would also take Jason time to add everything, when visual editors exist and things can already changed to anyones desire.

Yea, unless the UI version has the proper command lines that will keep happening. The regular version is command line only, so there is no interference. Some emulators don't automatically launch games properly via command line, especially when they have their own kind of launcher like that.
