Oh yeah, this can be kind of fun. I had a DOS startup and disk sound back in my HS days,...it was fun to listen to when I went into that system.

Startup Screens, Pause Screens, and Bezels Discussions
damageinc86 replied to Jason Carr's topic in News and Updates
Oh yeah this reminds me that it can help quite a bit on some PC games, especially if it doesn't look like it is starting but really is, sometimes people keep hitting enter, or other keys and mess everything up because a certain game might take longer than usual. Having a fade screen to mask that would help them to know that it's really working and just wait. Also, it's nice to have fade on my MS-DOS games so that I don't have to see d-fend and dosbox start up. It takes exclusive full screen once it gets there, but still nice to not see all the little windows starting up on the way there. -
Startup Screens, Pause Screens, and Bezels Discussions

How important is it to you for the startup screen to fade into the game? There are a few systems where my fades work great and cover things up all the way to the game loading screen. Since I use mednafen standalone, NES, Super Nintendo, Saturn, and a few others, all get covered up by the fade until the game intro logos start. It is important, but it's not the end of the world if it doesn't fade over all the way. Retroarch interrupts my fade after about 6 seconds and it ends abruptly with a slight blip and then it's fullscreen with the overlay enabled and the emulator starts from scratch so to speak. It's acceptable in order to have certain systems working. I still really enjoy the fades. They are just fun to see, especially when you have game specific artwork. It just makes it feel that much more immersive. Someday maybe there could even be game specific fade screen sets (emumovies?) that would auto-download when importing a game, just like fanart or screenshots. How important is it to you to use bezels? Are they worth the performance sacrifice to you? Very important to me. Because I only really use Retroarch for handhelds and like 2 other systems, I can't use their overlays for everything, so having rocketlauncher provide bezels for the rest of the systems keeps the entire setup looking consistent. Yes they are worth the performance sacrifice because it is usually negligible, and I'm sure it won't be an issue forever, as emulators and computers just keep getting better and more powerful. I'm still on my 7 year old computer, and I only have trouble with running 1 or 2 very taxing emulators. As I've said in threads before, literally the only reason I'm still using Rocketlauncher is because of the launching options: FADE, BEZEL, and KEYMAPPER. That is literally it. What features are you most looking for with startup screens? I enjoy the info that is up there on both top corners of the screen. The "now loading" artwork is fun to watch come up,...or whatever custom image you put in there for that. What features are you most looking for with pause screens? I personally only use PAUSE for the autohotkey save game and load game setup, and viewing manuals. Although the ability to check out a moves list that is auto-populated instead of manually created might be nice to have as well. Oh I guess having the game details copied over into that screen would be nice. -
Is there currently such a thing? I'd love to have the ability to maybe utilize a platform specific theme for certain platforms. Personally, the arcade platform which I made my clear logos for from the old HS days. It may be at least nice to have the capability to have a cool background image for a certain platform. This is the theme I would really love to have certain aspects adapted to LB: https://hyperspin-fe.com/forums/topic/14422-arcade-planet/?page=14 I'm sure some theme creator could make a killer theme inspired from it.

I have lost count of the times I've accidentally clicked delete instead of edit when I wanted to edit a game's details. Since it's such a frequently used option, perhaps moving delete down one, and refresh all images up one would help. That way if you accidentally go one click down farther, all you do is refresh your images real quick.

Can attract Mode start moving after video ends?
damageinc86 replied to studaloble's topic in Features
Yeah great idea. there should be a setting to "wait for gameplay video to end" or to not wait for it. Sometimes it is fun just to watch some random gameplay for a while. -
Just going to copy and paste my bitbucket issue: One of the last features that is keeping a lot of people using rocketlauncher is the integration of a keymapping utility that you can point to a keymapping program (e.g., joy2key.exe) select a game, create/edit/save profile, and then when launching the game the associated profile is automatically launched. With recent advances in PAUSE and FADE plug-ins, this is the last major feature that we need for LB/BB to jump from Rocketlauncher. https://bitbucket.org/jasondavidcarr/launchbox/issues/4638/built-in-keymapper-to-launch-game-specific

Right here: http://www.rlauncher.com/forum/vbdownloads.php?do=download&downloadid=1 Useful for those of us who like to also use stand-alone emulators and not just retroarch, but still have the bezels.

i agree, haven't used any other logos besides these once I found them. Thanks for helping us out with these @GiantTitan

I couldn't find a decent gamecube bezel, so I'm glad you adapted that one! It works very well. You just need an existing .ini file for RL with the screen coordinates ( i used the one I already had) and your bezels fit right in.

These also work well with rocketlauncher! That gamecube artwork is from reignstumble's console artwork pack. Even though it's stretched, it works very well as a bezel since the original was squished to begin with.

NAILED IT! Awesome. @KondoritoDoes the original psd file of your playlist text adapt the 3d effect to any text typed in? Also, how do you make a playlist platform category? I haven't worked much with playlists other than to make them and then either leave the "show as platform category" box checked or uncheck it. But to have a category FOR all the playlists?
-
Yeah I'm sure. I was adding my own for a while, but then it got to be too much work, and I went back to my other "non-realistic" bezel set.
-
I've always loved these. I only wish there was more surrounding cab variety in the backround. there are so many with the same cabs. There would probably be more variety of neighboring cabs in a real arcade as you moved down the line taking pictures so to speak.

It would also be fun to be able to see other LB/BB users' community high scores! But this is a good first step lol. Great idea.

do you know about how much it actually compresses a gamecube and wii file? Like a side-by-side comparison? I'd like to see that, would be interesting. Sounds like a great thing to take advantage of.

IT seems like the new version of bluestacks doesn't make .lnk shortcuts to the individual games anymore, so I couldn't launch individually through launchbox. Maybe I just couldn't find them because they buried them somewhere, but i looked a lot of places and never found them. EDIT: nevermind, went back and downloaded the newest one today and it pops a shortcut on your desktop when you install an app!

I've played some of those that don't officially support save states in MAME, but then they also work most of the time anyways. I think it's more of a "not completely 100% working in some cases, but usually does so we need to have a disclaimer" type of things. You are doing this all on your own? I remember when Jason said this couldn't really be done without insanity inducing difficulty, so he wouldn't really go down that path. But you seem to be doing quite well lol.

I just started bigbox today, and all of the sudden there is a playlist titled "arcade playlist" that I never created. It doesn't exist in the playlist view of launchbox, so I can't delete it, and I don't see it in the playlist folder. Has this ever happened to anyone? Suggestions?

Someday emulators will auto disc change. Someday...
-
So in a pbp, what happens when the game gets to a change disc screen? Just curious. @mcos87 You should throw your set up on dome.
-
heh, yeah! from the thriftstore. 20 bucks!

Yeah I ended up finding that metaljesus video later on that day and watched it at work. Pretty cool! I snagged a sega cart last night and tested it and that part worked. Now I just need a sega cd game to test. Maybe someday I'll test the MegaLD.
