  1. WD has been good for the last 9 years to me, well before they bought HGST. But yea, HGST is someone that I also champion for their low failure rates and durability. That's what my 8TB drive is too (not a NAS drive though), and it's a beast. WD already costs a bit more, but then HGST usually costs a bit more than that. I say the price difference is worth it too. I will never buy another Seagate drive as long as I live, and I hope I am wrong about that, because their new series looks and sounds like it's holding up ok, but it's too early to tell. It's the same situation for me as AMD and Intel, Intel needs that push from another company (look at those recent announcements, whoa), so I don't want AMD to go away but I would still never buy an AMD.
  2. Actually, the Famicom and NES platforms should already be merged. We're in the process of merging, splitting, and adding platforms. We don't want to break the Database as we do it. Alex (Vlansix) also has a regular job and life on top of this, so we can't expect him to work all day every day like Jason and myself. In some cases, SNES, NES, Wii and Arcade platforms, they will be merged if most aren't already. Some Arcade platforms like Taito Type X wont be merged for various reasons. If an arcade platform hasn't yet, there was either a reason why we didn't, or we've just missed it. In other cases like Sega CD, Sega 32x and Sega CD 32x, those are 3 different platforms as the Sega CD 32x is a unique combination of the two and brand new hardware needing to have been purchased.
  3. Yes, but the time and energy it takes to configure doesn't make it worth it for me in my mind. If that one feature is desired enough to go through the trouble, then sure go for it. Support will be a bit more limited though, because most of us aren't using RL, so we can't speak on how to fix or deal with it. It used to be a much bigger deal for people, then slowly RL's unique feature set grew smaller and smaller as LaunchBox updated and added more or alternate features. From what I can read, RL may not have been updated in a while too, so some of the LB changes may confuse it. Again though, I'm not exactly sure and that could have been fixed.
  4. There isn't. Some games will allow you to change the buttons in their settings, or some games will even have mods to swap those out (Resident Evil 4 and Dark Souls come to mind). The reason why the PC thinks it's a 360 controller, is because it's telling the PS4 controller to not be DirectInput and be Xinput, so everything can use it. DInput is older and less compatible now days. When Xinput came around big time for controllers on PC, was when the 360 controller was popular, and that's just stuck around. Everyone uses those prompts because they just assume it's a 360 pad. Any time a game gives you those buttons, it's 100% controlled by the game. If the game supports DirectInput, you can turn off InputMapper and let Steam utilize the controller as a PS4 controller, and see if the game will give you the right buttons then. In many cases that I used to see though, a game either had keyboard button prompts, Xbox 360 button prompts, or generic button prompts like it was a generic controller with 1, 2, 3, etc on the buttons. I've only seen a few cases where the games even bothered to use the Sony style buttons, and even then most were from mods.
  5. Our go to had been those two answers (here are some ways to clean up your pc or your specs are really low), because that's what all the threads ended up being about after a while. People who had no clue what they were really doing. I'm not saying that to be mean, it's just true. Are you on the latest official or beta release? Do you have any AV or active scanning software running? I'm also curious if forcing the cache helps too.
  6. If you imported them while they were not on the same drive, then their paths are not correct. The easiest solution would be to remove the games from your platform, move them to the location you want to keep them in, and re-import your games. Use the Uncheck All buttons for the media download screens, and it will import faster, and all of the images you've already downloaded will reattach automatically.
  7. That sounds like a happy medium if that's what they want. I'll bring it up to Jason and Kirsten, see what they think.
  8. To be honest, and this is coming from a purely business aspect, that starts to get extremely tricky. Not only would each user then become a "contract" worker to LaunchBox, we'd have extra tax issues, and so would each user. I mean, it's up to someone what they do and don't report for taxes, but it starts to get very complicated, very very fast. I'm certainly not saying you're wrong, I like the sentiment as well, but this is something that is extremely more complicated than that. I'll use an example. Not too long ago, we had two theme issues pop up internally. One of these issues was surrounding specific themes that may or may not come heavily from a template. I'm no stranger to these, I use these in my work all the time because they're affordable, I have the licenses to use them forever, and they save me A TON of time, and my client a ton of time when starting from these. Starting from scratch costs significantly more money. However, I have the right to do what I want with these templates, paid or unpaid, forever. Some places are not that accommodating, and then we get in to the business of needing to check to make sure everyone has the proper rights to use what they made. What if someone stole those templates from a torrent site? They don't have the right to redistribute them, they've utilized them illegally technically speaking, and then we're the ones at stake. We then have to remove the file, piss people off who may have liked it, and potentially piss the creators off. Then add on to that, if we paid them. When you start making money from something, through someone else, A TON of factors start to come in to play from the business perspective that can cause issues. We make a decent amount from Patreon too, around 41 people last I checked, but that's not enough money to pay someone what it's really worth. I just did some work for a client recently, not related to LaunchBox, and I made what we make on Patreon in 4 days. I'm being a little extra transparent on this because this is a very tricky subject and I'd rather be honest than try and hide the reasons. We honestly don't make enough to contract the amount of people who use their skill, and it creates a lot of potential legal problems. It can certainly always change, we can certainly add more or contract someone out to do something here or there, but setting up this sort of profit sharing is much more difficult than it sounds. I hope that response doesn't anger anyone, I do totally understand and very much appreciate that sentiment.
  9. I haven't seen anyone mention this recently unfortunately.
  10. Nah, it's on topic. Fighting themed cab, fighting game new release. Close enough.
  11. Please don't make multiple threads. I just answered the other one, not knowing this was even here.
  12. I get the Beta's for many emulators, and generally speaking they're fairly well stable. I mean, it's really like anything in Beta, even LB has these issues. The, if it ain't broke, then don't fix it thing doesn't work for me. I always want the latest edition and version of my software, generally speaking. I honestly don't have much issues usually upgrading stuff either. People have been conditioned not to for some reason... I can't explain it. Testing it out is pretty easy though. If it gives you the results you're looking for, then use. Keep around the last version you had working just in case.
  13. I have an 8TB 5400RPM drive and it doesn't perform bad at all. So you should be good to go.
  14. I wonder if @eXo knows... He loves that era. If it is a Windows 95 game though, even if it does utilize a DOS prompt, I'm not certain vanilla DOSBox will work. You might need a fork of DOSBox.
  15. Ah. you said Overlay so my mind went to RetroArch. Unless you're using RL, only some emulators utilize Overlays (RA and MAME). Some of the things you said, like configed per game, also jives with RetroArch. Past that then, sorry I am unsure.
  16. For the record, I am perfectly qualified to answer these questions.
  17. Yea, you're not gonna lose too much space because of this, but I could understand why It's frustrating. X_X
  18. There is a way to make DOSBox not close on error, but instead wait for you to close it. I don't exactly remember how to set that up. In DOSBox Daum I know I have that set up, so that way I can see errors and fix them.
  19. Actually Freestate, the Database has already been updated quite a lot, some of this stuff just needs to be rolled out, and some already has. When adding a game it now searches the alt names, and they're even working on LB reading the alt names. We've been posting changelogs for it on the Discord as well.
  20. Is the Dolphin core even in a stable state yet? I haven't checked it out yet, but it also just came out, so there might not be a ton of info related for that specific case yet.
  21. Ah, that's good to know! I will make sure to keep note of that.
  22. We need to come up with a solution that separates games in a platform that have the same name anyways, as this is already an issue. However, merging platforms is something that has been talked about for almost a year now on the forums. So I think we need to have that solution in first, besides overhauling how Pinball works in LaunchBox. Currently not many people even utilize LB and Pinball, as it's one of the more difficult platforms to get working. While we're also not against adding platforms, we split "PC" in to a few for example, there needs to be a good reason why we would want to. An example of platforms we merged was Famicom and NES; there doesn't really need to be two platforms of the same thing. If it hasn't already happened (we're in the process of changing everything up), then the small Arcade platforms aren't going to be there either, it'll just be Arcade (except for a few exceptions). It's hard to explain, but I hope that gets across part of the methodology. We don't want platforms split just because someone else in another community at one point said they should be. Custom Platforms and Playlists are extremely easy to make and manage. Granted, I still agree that doesn't solve the problem you've outlined, however we still have that problem elsewhere and it's something we need to fix. I think a combination of Game Name first, then if that's duplicated then use the year, and then if that's duplicated use the developer / publisher. I think that might be one of the only ways to effectively sort out that issue. At which point, this doesn't need multiple platforms, but anyone is still more than welcome to create a custom platform then scrape it as Pinball.
  23. Are you working with default settings? What game are you trying to run? Some games require more power or specific settings compared to others.
