I guess I should go back and try it out. I just remember seeing it back in the day when it came out and really disliking the way the game look. I also really did not like the early 32-bit polygonal graphics, they really bothered me back then when it was new. It's not simply a case of they didn't age well, I just really hated the look back then. I would have preferred if FF VII was done with pure sprite work like how the Lunar games were done on the PS1.

Hehe yeah I haven't tried FF VII since I don't have the game. I guess I will bite the bullet and download it to try it out, I am not a FF VII fan though. Yeah im that one guy who actually dislikes VII LOL.

I fairly certain you can using the latest nightly. I also have a separate install of Retroarch just for Vulkan as well. it was just easier that way I did notice on games that are the other way around from FF IX it looked odd. For example Dragon Quest VII which uses 3D backgrounds with 2D sprites for the characters the effect just isn't as good as FF IX. Spyro looked really good due to the cartoonish art stye. Omega Boost and Colony Wars looks great because it's just space and no extra crap to worry about.

I am not a fan of upscaling PS1 games either but the new Vulkan PSX core is pretty damn sweet especially with the PGXP enhancements (though the OpenGL hardware renderer has this too). Certain games make better use of the upscaling compared to native resolution, so far I have found games that have polygons on top of pre-rendered backdrops look best. I posted a couple of screenshots of Final Fantasy IX in an earlier thread and I think it looks amazing. Full on polygonal games look decent enough depending on the art style, something like Spyro the Dragon looks really good. Another really nice benefit of this core is that it handles the 2D elements such as speech bubbles and UI text separately so it doesn't ruin the look by upscaling that as well. For 2D games though obviously leaving it in native resolution with just a shader looks best.

Coverflow not smooth on powerful computer
Lordmonkus replied to Immortal Chortle's topic in Troubleshooting
Yeah my lower end HTPC is running the 32-bit version of Windows 7 and it also only has 2 gigs of ram. My main gaming rig with is obviously higher end, AMD 8350 @ 4GHz, 16 gigs ram, Windows 8.1 64 bit. Both systems are fine using the non latest non beta and no third party themes. -
Coverflow not smooth on powerful computer
Lordmonkus replied to Immortal Chortle's topic in Troubleshooting
There is something going on here. I can only repeat what I have stated earlier in this thread. I use the latest non beta build on 2 different systems, one a fairly decent upper mid end gaming PC and the other a really old low end (by todays standards) PC. Both use the stock theme and basic view, the one with just the text list and showing only box art and screen shots. I don't use clear logo wheel art or video files, I have all animations turned off and picture quality set to medium on the low end PC. Even using the "cover flow" view with all the box arts on screen scrolling by things move along smoothly after caching all the art in. I have no idea if there is an issue with the beta or a 3rd party theme or not. But if you use just the settings I use in the latest non beta and still have performance issues then you have something else going on in your PC. I know that is not an answer anyone will want to hear but it is all that is is left. -
The vast majority of NES and Famicom games should work using the Nestopia core, it's the core I use. The disksys.rom is only for the Famicom Disk System so if your games are not working it is most likely a Launchbox configuration problem. However it is a very good idea to have the NstDatabase.xml file in your \Retroarch\system folder where your bios are located as well. Here is the .xml file I have. There is no copyrighted data in this file, it is simply an xml file and not a rom or actual bios. NstDatabase.xml

I haven't tried the Vulkan N64 core but the GLupeN64 core is really good right now.
-
So far it is fine for me but I only use it for games that have 3D polygonal graphics and still use the software for 2D sprite games which is the bulk of my PS collection. One of the nicer things for the HW core is the PGXP core settings which fixes up some texture alignment and wobble.

This is correct, just set your settings using the Dolphin UI and they should load with the rom as long as you are using the same install you made the settings in and not another install. If you move over to a new install just copy over the \user\GameSettings folder from your Dolphin install folder to the new one. At least this is my theory on how it would work by looking at it

It's just the Mednafen Hardware core mednafen_psx_hw_libretro.dll. You need to have a Vulkan capable video card and drivers. Enable the Vulkan video driver in Retroarch and then in the core options enable Vulkan. Here's a shot using the Lottes shader which shows off much better than the Royale shader. For some reason screenshots don't show off Royale as good as it is running live.
-
Hmm, maybe its the copying that's causing the issue. I have never run into the problem you are describing but I also don't copy my roms into the LB folder. I have added new games and imported the new games without issues.
-
Are the new games you are importing in the same rom folder or a different one ?
-
Well without more details my first guess is you have the "extract rom archive" box checked in your emulator settings window in Launchbox.
-
These shots are using the new Vulkan PSX core in Retroarch with the Royale shader at 1440 and 8x internal resolution. View the pics full size to seem them at their best, actually the shots don't do them justice. There is some extra noise in the shots that just is not there while running.

Video Issue-Sega CD on genesis_plus_gx_libretro.dll
Lordmonkus replied to jarpenner's topic in Noobs
If you are planning on using the Reicast core all I will say is good luck with that Glad you got the issues sorted out though. -
That would probably be a good start along with the default video plugin.
-
Easy, when you load a game just hit Alt + Enter to go into full screen then exit the game using Alt + F4 or Launchboxs exit key. The next time you load up using puNES it should load in full screen mode. It does for me anyways.

Video Issue-Sega CD on genesis_plus_gx_libretro.dll

Could you possibly get some screen shots of your video settings ? The best way is to load a game, switch into windowed mode then while you have the video settings visible take a screen cap. Also are you using any shaders ? -

That is weird that it would shift over but check in your video settings and see if Custom Viewport X Pos and Y look like this. It is possible to convert games to cue + bin. You would need to start by converting your .ape files to .wav, then you would need to mount your disk image in virtual cd program like Daemon Tools or Virtual Clone Drive. Once mounted you could use ImgBurn to create a new image in cue + bin format. Depending on how many you have you may be better off getting new dumps. -
No problem, I hope the tweaks you made at least made a slightly better experience to your emulation. I also updated my thoughts on Nintendo 64 cores and emulation after recent testing of the GLupeN64 core.
-
Though you could just go through your list of games and edit each Game Gear game to change it's platform. Depending on how many games you imported it could be time consuming.
-
Yeah all the Genesis games will just sync up though you may have to do a bit of maintenance if you had to make some name changes to get things to scrape properly the first time around.
